English As A Second Language
Programs
The Hispanic Institute makes it easy for an
employer to arrange for its workers to receive quality instruction
in English as a Second Language (ESL). A company can choose
to send employees to our regular on-campus program or have
the Institute develop a custom program, tailored to the employer's
particular industry, with instruction delivered at the company's
site.
On Campus ESL Program
The Institute operates an extensive adult
education program that offers ten (10) levels of English
as a Second Language (ESL), as well as Courses in keyboarding,
word processing, and other basic business/office skills. This
program serves more than 2,000 students a year at three instructional
sites located in Hackensack, North Branch (Somerset County),
and Camden, respectively.
The Courses cover elementary, intermediate
and advanced ESL, focusing on grammar and vocabulary as well
as on reading and writing skills. English is taught in a variety
of practical contexts. (e.g. employment, housing, shopping,
banking, etc.)
Courses are offered year-round, on Saturdays,
with both morning and afternoon sessions available. Call our
office to obtain a detailed schedule.
The Registration fee is $200.00 per person
for a 40-hour (ten-week) course. Discounted rates are available
for employers enrolling groups of 15 or more students at one
time.
At the end of each course, the Institute will
provide the employer with a report detailing the attendance
record and final grade of each employee enrolled in the program.
On-Site Customized ESL
In many work settings, daily communication
involves extensive use of terms and phrases particular to
that industry. For those employers, the Institute offers customized
ESL programs.
One of the Institute's experienced ESL professionals
will meet with the employer's management to analyze the needs
of the company, design an appropriate and relevant course
of study, and arrange a convenient class schedule.
The Institute also provides instruction to
managers and executives who are non-native speakers of English
that need to familiarize themselves with business expressions
and idioms commonly used in the U.S.
Fees are based on the number of participants,
as well as the number of instructional hours desired. Most
Courses are conducted in 20 or 40 hour modules conducted over
10-week or 5-week cycles.
At the end of each course, the Institute will
provide the employer with a detailed progress report on each
student.
Since all Courses are customized to your needs,
call us to discuss your particular requirements.
TESTING
Regardless of whether you choose the on-campus
or the on site custom program, all students are administered
an English proficiency test prior to beginning their studies
so that can be placed in the appropriate level of instruction.
INSTRUCTORS
The Hispanic Institute's ESL Courses are taught
by a pool of seasoned professional instructors experienced
in teaching adult learners. Their experience includes teaching
in industry, in colleges and universities, and in various
other settings, both in the U.S. and abroad.
